welcome! here's how this works:

I process all orders in person, so if you would like to get on the books for something, reach out directly, either through DM in Instagram (gets my attention the fastest), or by email (emmetvan@gmail.com). There is no shop here that you can place an order with. All of my work is either commissioned (I'm currently booking spring 2022), or there is a list you need to get on. Please read the Products page for more details and options.

I have a book out, that you can read more about below, and I am currently writing the next two.

Check out my daily podcast, Emmet Audio, available anywhere you get podcasts. Bold words are links or you can search for it by name. You can also sign up for my blog below. I have used the blog for a number of different functions over the years, but it is the surest way to see any announcements I make about the new book or any other project.

Finally, if you are looking to subscribe to Spoonesaurus Magazine, click here.

book ordering information

I have one book currently published, called Carving Out a Living On the Land, that is a memoir of taking over our Christmas tree farm (pieropantrees.com) and that also documents the start of my spoon carving journey. That was published by Chelsea Green Publishing, and can be found anywhere you get books.

I have two additional books in the works, both spoon carving related. Greenwood Spoon Carving is my magnus opus brain dump, everything I know about carving spoons, organized by topic. That is nearing completion and will be out hopefully by October 2022. I am planning to publish that myself, so it will only be available here.

The third book is The Spoon Carving Project Book, a book of 15 forms with step-by-step photographs and instructions. That is being published by Fox Chapel Publishing, who put out Woodcarving Illustrated magazine. That will come out in 2023, and should be a nice complement to the other book, guiding you through spoon forms that get more and more complicated as you proceed. As with any book published by an actual publishing company, it will be available to buy anywhere you get your books.

One idea is as worthless as another until you actually do something about it, and then it is the action, not the word that matters.  --Orson Scott Card
